Dial thermometers for measuring the temperature of liquids, gases, and solids. The temperature is measured by a measuring head at the end of a capillary tube. The measuring principle is based on the expansion of the liquid in a capillary tube, which changes volume under the influence of temperature changes, causing a deflection of the tip against the thermometer disk marked with a temperature scale. The thermometer display can be calibrated by changing the position of the screws on the back of the housing.
