Structure and design of the system

The R2D2 water softener impresses with its robust cabinet housing, which not only protects the internal components but also serves as a regeneration salt container. A removable lid makes maintenance and refilling particularly straightforward.

Inside the cabinet is a pressure-resistant GRP pressure cylinder filled with high-quality ion exchange resin. This resin forms the heart of the system and ensures permanently soft water through the effective exchange of hardness-forming substances.

Quantity control with the BNT 1650 valve

The integrated BNT 1650 valve enables precise, water-flow-controlled regeneration of the system. The built-in water meter measures soft water consumption and automatically initiates the regeneration process as soon as the preset flow rate is reached.

The regeneration phase begins daily at 2:00 a.m., with the valve preset to "Delayed Volume-Controlled Regeneration." This ensures that the water softener continuously operates optimally and reliably monitors consumption.

High-quality ion exchange resin

The powerful ion exchange resin is loaded with sodium ions and plays a central role in the softening process. As tap water passes through the resin, calcium and magnesium ions are effectively exchanged for sodium ions, resulting in soft water.

The durable resin ensures consistently high water quality with regular regeneration and boasts a service life of over 20 years. This ensures sustainable and economical water treatment.

Automatic regeneration of the water softener

Once the resin is fully saturated with calcium and magnesium ions, self-regeneration begins. A highly concentrated saline solution is automatically passed over the resin, reversing the exchange processes and re-enriching the material with sodium ions.

During this process, the calcium and magnesium ions, along with excess salt solution, are drained into the wastewater via a separate drain. This quickly regenerates the resin and makes it available for further use.

Forced regeneration and safety features

To prevent contamination of the resin bed, the forced regeneration function ensures that the system automatically switches to regeneration mode on the 10th day after prolonged inactivity. This function guarantees continuous hygienic water treatment.

An integrated safety float valve with a buoy protects the cabinet housing from overflowing water, ensuring reliable operation even in unusual situations. The system's salt supply lasts for approximately three to four months, depending on water hardness and consumption.

Technical data and performance features

The Water softening system R2D2 is available in various models tailored to households of 4 to 7 people. The capacity of the system varies depending on water hardness, so depending on the model, up to 7,200 liters can be softened.

The various technical parameters include a nominal flow rate based on DIN 16939 and a regeneration time of between 30 and 45 minutes. Furthermore, the system is designed for a maximum pipe water flow pressure of 6 bar and remains reliably operational at a minimum pressure of 2 bar.

With a large salt capacity of up to 50 kg and robust GRP pressure cylinders in various sizes, the system offers a flexible solution for diverse needs. The low power consumption of just 3 watts further underscores the energy efficiency of this innovative product.
